This is a sequel novel that begins where my first novel, "A Message For All Time" ends. The first novel is about an adventure that a mother and son takes from London to Jamaica to deliver a message found in a bottle from three dying sailors. One of the sailors was the brother of a college professor in Jamaica and the adventure leads to romance for the mother and the son. This sequel novel continues their adventure in Jamaica. It is a "feel good" novel, as was the novel
that it follows. CreateSpace eStore: https://www.createspace.com/4135364

I have recently published a novel, a collection of short stories, and a collection of devotional stories. But I had many stories, poems, memories, and essays that did not fit into the previous books. This book is a book that you can pick up and enjoy even if you just have four or five minutes to spare - a good "coffee table" book.

THIS IS A RESUME OF MY NOVEL, "A MESSAGE FOR ALL TIME". I HOPE THAT YOU WILL WANT TO READ THIS NOVEL OF ROMANCE, PATRIOTISM AND DEVOTION!
In 1954, a young man, Richard, and his mother, Gloria, were taking a week-end trip from their home in London to a borrowed cabin at Brighton Beach on the southern coast of England. While fishing, Richard finds a message in a bottle. It tells of the final days of three sailors in a dinghy, whose ship had been sunk in early 1942. Here is the message:
"I write these words to no one special. I have no family, except for one. But somehow it makes dying easier if you say some sort of last words. I don't expect anybody to find this so I write it as a statement to the 'cloud of witnesses' that the Bible says is watching me. I am floating in a little rubber life raft. The supplies aboard have long ago been used up, except for this bit of paper and pencil and a bottle that I saved. My ship went down from a German sub. Most of my buddies went down with the ship. Three of us found this dinghy. The other two, Bob Swithers and Melvin Dorster, have already died from exposure and, I think, loss of hope. We have counted twenty days. I am Jim Stark of London. I am very weak and feel that my time can be a matter of minutes or hours at the most."
" I want to say that I hope that what we are trying to do to turn Hitler around will work. I hope that peace will some day come back to the England that I love. But I want the world to know that, no matter who wins this war, I, Jim Stark, believe that freedom will win over tyranny wherever the two may meet. Freedom has within its own seed the fruit of triumph, and tyranny likewise has within its own seed the fruit of failure. God and the nature of life will see to that. And so I die with full confidence that my dying alone on this drifting sea is not in vain and I will watch the inevitable victory march of human freedom from some grand stand seat among my buddies, somewhere up there. Know that I die in full hope of living again. Love to all, Jim Stark, March, 1942."
As Richard finished these words, he felt the tears welling up in his eyes. Richard and his mother were so moved by the message and the probability that there were loved ones who still did not know whether Jim, Bob, and Melvin were dead or just missing in action, that they decided to try to find any survivors that could be found. They sought the help of the Royal Navy and received friendly help from a retired Naval Officer, Sir Thomas Lawn.
They traced Jim Stark to a cousin in London, Betsey, and a fiancee, Clara. The knowledge of Jim's death brought sadness but closure to both ladies and allowed Clara to begin life again. Then Clara remembered something that Jim Stark had told her in a letter – that Melvin Dorster was actually Dr. Melvin Dorster, a former professor in a college in Jamaica, who had been “loaned” to the Royal Navy, temporarily, for some specific purpose.
This gave Gloria and Richard the next step of their journey – to find out if Dr. Dorster had any survivors in Jamaica. Sir Thomas provided them with a round trip by air on a Navy/Army transport plane, since their trip could be interpreted loosely as “Navy business”. They had a choice of coming back on the return flight the next day or, if they had to stay over to complete their business, they could come back on the return flight the next week. They called a college in Jamaica that they found listed in the Encyclopedia and found that Dr. Dorster had, indeed, taught there and that his brother, Dr. Leitman Dorster was a professor there currently. Gloria made an appointment with Dr. Leitman Dorster and she and Richard made the flight to Jamaica. On the flight to Jamaica, Gloria was told, via airplane radio, that Clara had remembered more that her Jim had told her about Dr. Melvin Dorster. He was to have made a speech at the launching of a ship named the HMS Jamaica, but died before this could be done. But Clara had received the main part of the speech, as heard by Jim, in a letter from Jim. She dictated the speech to Gloria and it gave her much more positive information to give to Dr. Leitman Dorster than simply how his brother had died.
Dr. Leitman Dorster had been told only that Gloria and Richard had information about his brother, so he brought his sister, Cassia, to hear the news with him. Gloria and Richard were well received at the college and they gave “Leit”, as he would be known thereafter, and Cassia the information that they had gained from the message in the bottle. Then they read the speech that Dr. Melvin was to have made at the ship launching. This was basically what was said: "It has been a profound gift to me, as a citizen of Jamaica, to have had the privilege of knowing the young men who are serving so bravely in this war. I think of their courage and their sincere devotion to country, to God, and to truth.”
“But this war will not last forever. And these young men and those young women who are showing their courage back home even now – they will need to find schools that are worthy of nourishing their good minds, schools that will receive them with open arms. I, for one, have been given a new vision of the need for those schools to have the very highest of standards and goals. As a person who has some influence in such a school, I plan to go back to the country for which this fine ship is named, and help to establish one of the finest Universities in the Western Hemisphere. With God's help and the help of my fellow countrymen, it WILL happen!”
The hearing of this speech changed everything for Leit and Cassia. Since the death of Melvin, the entire college – The West Indies Training School – had lost its energy and its hope for becoming a University. They had settled for the status quo. This speech would relight the fires that Melvin had first given them before going to war. But Leit insisted that, in order for the spirit of the speech to have its maximum effect, Gloria and Richard would have to present it, as they had to him and Cassia, to the college board of directors, to the Education wing of the government in Kingston, and to as many people as possible in the town of Mandeville, where the college was located. Gloria and Richard had already decided that they would stay the extra week if they needed to. They readily accepted the invitation to stay with Leit and Cassia and speak at every occasion that could be arranged.
To make the story much shorter, during the busy week of speaking engagements and working closely with Leit and Cassia, Gloria and Richard fell in love with Jamaica, and their lives were full of romance and adventure for the rest of the story!
